How to vectorize image illustrator?

Vectorizing image illustrator format can be quite simple, you can do it from the Quick Actions panel, and it doesn’t require much effort. But if the case is that you want to convert a raster image into a vector graphic, that’s a different story.

Method 1: Image Trace

If your search is how to vector my image, the easiest way is to vectorize a raster image when the image is not too complex or you don’t want the image to be exactly the same. To create different outcomes, there are different tracing options available. Let’s take a look at a few illustrations:

Step 1: Place the raster image in vectorizing image illustrator and insert the image. You will see the image trace option under the Properties > Quick Actions panel after selecting the image.

Step 2: Click on the crop image option and crop the image to the dimension and area that you want to vectorize, then click apply. Now you can trace the images.

Step 3: Click image trace and select an option the way you want to trace the image.

You’ll get the most accurate representation of the original image with a High Fidelity Photo. The look will be more cartoonish with Low Fidelity Photo. If you want to create different consequences, feel free to try out other features as well. You can also modify some detail settings from the image trace panel.

Click on the small panel icon next to the tracing result so that you can see the available options right in. You can go to the panel from the overhead menu Window > Image Trace, if your AI version doesn’t show this menu. Feel free to check other tracing options as well.

Step 4: Click on expand and your image is vectorized right after.

Now decouple the image to edit it. For instance, if you want to delete the background, use the eraser tool to erase or simply select the unwanted area and click the delete button.

When it is about an intricate background it would take you some time to remove it, besides this, if your background has only a few colors, you can select all of the colors and delete them at a go.

Method 2: Pen Tool

You can now go to vector my image into a simple outline, silhouette and fill it with all your favorite colors to make it a better vector graphic.

Step 1: Choose the image and lower the opacity up to about 70%.

Step 2: fix the image layer so it doesn’t move by accident while you work.

Step 3: Make a new layer by using the pen tool to draw/trace different pieces of the image. Choose the pen tool from the toolbar, select a stroke color to change and click fill to none. Now unbind the paths and color the image.

Step 4: Use the eyedropper tool to sample colors out from the real image and apply them to the vector my image. If some areas are not visible, right-click and organize the color areas until you get the right sequence.
